Who we are

JM Chem is a student-built platform that creates course-specific STEM resources for real college classes. Each course is developed by students who’ve mastered the material and understand how it’s actually taught and tested. Our goal is to make STEM clearer, more approachable, and even enjoyable – without oversimplifying or dumbing it down.

JM Chem was founded by two University of Michigan alumni who couldn’t quite let go of their favorite course: Organic Chemistry II. Through years of tutoring CHEM 215, we noticed a consistent gap in available resources. Students didn’t need more long lectures or generic explanations; they needed short, targeted supplemental content aligned to their specific course and exams.

While platforms like YouTube and Khan Academy offer valuable explanations, they aren’t tailored to individual courses at specific universities. Private tutoring can be incredibly effective, but it’s often expensive and inaccessible to many students. JM Chem was created to bridge this gap by combining deep course knowledge with thoughtful teaching to produce high-quality, affordable resources designed around real syllabi and assessments.

Looking ahead, JM Chem aims to expand across universities by partnering with motivated students to build course-specific content for their own classes. If you’re passionate about teaching, clarity, and helping others learn, we’d love to work with you.
